Springtime means warmer weather, blooming landscapes, and baseball, but youth sports of all kinds don’t come without injuries 

Children ages five to fourteen account for nearly forty percent of all sports-related injuries in hospital emergency departments.

April is National Youth Sports Safety Month and the National Center for Sports Safety is working to reduce the more than three and a half million children ages fourteen and under who get medical treatment for sports injuries each year.

J.D. Dunavant is the head athletic trainer for the University of Louisiana at Monroe. He offers tips and guidelines for parents with children in competitive sports.
