ULM Alumni Honored as Louisiana Teachers of the Year | ULM Forum 8-20-12

Louisiana recently honored more than three hundred of its top educators as “Teachers of the Year.” Two alumni of the University of Louisiana at Monroe – both teaching in Ouachita Parish – were selected for the honor.

Weems
Amy Weems was named the 2013 Teacher of the Year for Louisiana. She is third generation teacher with more than eight years of experience in Louisiana schools. Weems has taught Home Living to sixth, seventh, and eight graders for the past year at Ouachita Parish Junior High School.
 
Weems was selected from 24 regional finalists for the distinction of Louisiana's 2013 Teacher of the Year.
 
She won a prize package worth nearly $50,000.
 
Williams
Melissa Williams, a 4th grade teacher at Highland Elementary School in West Monroe, was named Louisiana Elementary Teacher of the Year.
 
Williams was awarded a variety of prizes including $2,500 from Dream Teachers nonprofit organization.
