Robotics are part of our everyday lives, from the vending machine to the car wash. Teaching simple robotics concepts to students is a jumping off point for a workshop held for teachers by the University of Louisiana at Monroe College of Education and Human Development as part of the NASA Summer of Innovation.

The goal of this workshop is to educate teachers how to incorporate robotics in their classrooms in conjunction with using the 5 E model.

This model helps student learn new ideas on top of old ideas. The 5 E’s are: Engage, Explore, Explain, Elaborate, and Evaluate. When students are taught with this style of teaching they are more likely to fully grasp concepts.

Understanding robots is an important thing for students to know in the 21 century.

Pugh says this event taught the use of "everyday materials to create everyday machines."
