Local author and teacher Jamie Mayes began writing as a teenager.  Reflecting on childhood and life experiences growing up in a poor, urban community, Mayes has penned several collections of poetry. Her most recent book is titled, "Pennies In My Pocket".  She shares about becoming a writer and the topics she addresses in her work.
