Educational Talent Search

Higher education is never an easy reach for students from low-income families. Louisiana’s TOPS program has made college more affordable for many, but for students who’ve never had anyone in their family go to college, it’s still a difficult road map to navigate.

For thirty years now, a program at the University of Louisiana at Monroe has been working to both keep those students in school and help them make decisions that can lead to access to a college degree. Dr. Catherin Estis is the executive director for the TRIO Programs, including the educational talent search and Upward Bound here at ULM.

High School Brass Day

Brass players of all types converge on the ULM campus this weekend to learn, to network, and to grow as musicians. Brass Day, presented by the Division of Music of ULM's School of Visual and Performing Arts, features trumpeter Doug Reneau, a member of the Louisiana Philharmonic Orchestra and the Chamber Arts Brass.

Brass Day includes performances and presentations by Reneau and members of the ULM brass faculty. Other activities in the all-day event include ensemnble reading and coaching sessions, and instrument and music exhibits.
