One of the most colorful history professors you’ll ever meet has a place in the hearts and minds of students and alumni over more than two generations. He’s known for outdoor poetry readings, breaking out into song during class, and even staging his own death during finals. Dr. H.P. Jones has been teaching at the University of Louisiana at Monroe for 46 years.

Jones has a distinct passion for engaging students, "History itself is interesting, but we teachers kill it." He says he works to do "whatever it takes" to get students interested in his classes. He examines the changes he's seen on the campus over the years and explains how the experience he gained in his two and a half year trek around the world as a young man applies to teaching today.
