Family Reading Encourages Engagement | ULM Forum 9-2-11
For many years, professors from the University of Louisiana at Monroe have been storytellers and scholars as part of the Prime Time Family Reading Time® program, sponsored by the Louisiana Endowment for the Humanities.
Through open-ended discussion about humanities issues in children’s literature, the program encourages reading among at-risk children, and the participation of their parents and family members in the discussion of the stories.

Nora Collins, branch manager for the Carver-McDonald Library in Monroe says the program encourages children to engage in all types of learning. Jack Heflin, a professor of English at ULM and a facilitator for the program, explains how he's seen families draw closer together as they take part in the program.
