Adams

This week in our faculty profile series, we talk with an English professor who steps out beyond writing skills into life skills. Dr. Mary Adams sees it as part of her responsibility to engage students with the outside world, starting with activities on the university campus.

In 1988 she came to ULM as an undergrad not knowing what to do with her studies.  Then she had a English professor during her sophomore year that inspired her to go with a profession in the English field.

Today she has her doctorate in cultural studies form University of Oklahoma and is the director of composition and an associate professor of English at ULM.  According to Adams her favorite part of teaching is that every class is a new experience. With each group of new students brings a new fresh approach to literature. She learns from the fresh approaches of each class. She makes sure that students go out and enjoy what ULM has to offer by giving the students the opportunity to do reports on fun activities that are happening on campus.

Without a doubt, Dr. Adams favorite spot on campus in University Park. Her favorite place to watch the baseball games is from behind third base, where she and her family call the Hot Corner Hawks because of the plentiful of fly balls. They even have t-shirts. She loves going to University Park to celebrate ULM and see her family.

Her proudest moments at ULM have been winning various awards from students and faculty. Being recognized and appreciated for her hard work.
