Dr. H.P. Jones Beloved Professor | ULM Forum 03-22-2012

Jones, 83, died in his home on Tuesday, March 19, 2013. The university community remembers his almost half-century of service as a history professor from Jan. 1, 1965, to his retirement May 19, 2012.

 

Jones was a professor at ULM for 47 years. He has been though: 3 School name changes, 5 presidents, 4 deans, and 9 head football coaches at this university.  He was most known for his outdoor poetry and staging his own death during finals week.  Jones was a student at the university back when tuition was only $67 per semester.    

 

Decades of former students remember his almost half-century of service as a history professor.

 

Jones once said, “It is our responsibility as teachers to learn all that we can from life and to share those lessons with those who will come after us. That is the lesson of history. After all, nothing else is important.”
