For some, learning about a favorite performer is a brief pastime, such as celebrating Justin Bieber’s birthday. For others, that interest turns into a lifelong passion.

Hood
Dr. Richard Hood, executive assistant to the president at the University of Louisiana at Monroe, is an expert on the life of guitarist and producer Chet Atkins. Hood has been a presenter at the Chet Atkins Convention for the past 10 years, and is a featured performer this weekend at the Country Music Hall of Fame in Nashville, as part of a special exhibit Atkins’ life and career.

On Friday March 2, Hood will showed his presentation to teachers throughout the Nashville area, and on Saturday, March 3, Hood presented to the general public in Ford Theater at the Hall of Fame. The title of the presentation is “The Life and Music of Chet Atkins.”

Guest guitarists included Eddie Pennington of Kentucky and Ben Hall of Mississippi. Both Pennington and Hall are previous National Finger-Style Guitar champions. Throughout Hood’s presentation, Pennington and Hall played pieces from each era of Atkins’ life and career.

For more information on Atkins and the program visit the Country Music Hall of Fame.
