Registration is now open for the Ninth Annual Warhawk Triathlon coming up on March 16. The race features the University of Louisiana at Monroe campus and surrounding area, and can be a good start for first-time triathletes, or an early tune-up for seasoned competitors.

The family event will begin at the YMCA Lake C. Oxford Natatorium on the ULM campus at 8:30 a.m., Saturday, March 16.

This year’s theme is “Duck Dynasty,” modeled after the popular local A&E television series “Duck Dynasty,” which features ULM alum, Willie Robertson (B.S. ’96).

The race will feature an indoor 400 meter pool swim with 50 meter staggered starts based on participant’s estimated 400 meter swim times; an 11 mile flat and fast bike course; and a three mile run through the ULM campus.

The youth triathlon will be held at the same venue and will start at 10 a.m.

The youth triathlon distances vary based on age:

5-6 year olds will do a 25-meter swim, a 2-kilometer bike run, and .5-kilometer run

7-10 year olds will do a 100-meter swim, a 5-kilometer bike run, and 1-kilometer run

11-15 year olds will do a 200-meter swim, a 10-kilometer bike run, and 2-kilometer run.

For the first time, a cash payout will be awarded to the male and female winners of the course record, and the top three male and female finishers.

The course record prize is $200, and the top three finishers for men and women will be awarded $100, $75, and $50, accordingly.

Also for the first time, the race will feature a para-athlete division for those with physical disabilities.

Dr. Lisa Colvin would like to see as many people out running as possible.
